Rajya Sabha adjourned over member's death

NEW DELHI: Sitting Rajya Sabha member and the former Union Minister, Sukhbans Kaur (63), died here on Friday after prolonged illness.

Sukhbans Kaur, a Congress member of the Rajya Sabha from Punjab, was ailing for some time and had been admitted to a hospital here. Her death was announced in the House in the afternoon by Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. As a mark of respect, the House was adjourned for the day.

Ms. Kaur was elected to the Rajya Sabha in June 2004 after losing narrowly to actor Vinod Khanna in the Lok Sabha elections.
