Man sentenced in dowry case

PUDUKOTTAI: The Judge of the Fast Track Judge, S. Udhayan, on Monday, convicted and sentenced P. Anandan (35) of Innanviduthi near here to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in a dowry case.

According to the prosecution, Anandan doused his wife, Usharani and their infant Anandavalli, with kerosene and set them afire. The child died of burns at the GH here. The incident occurred in December 2004. The Regunathapuram police registered a case and arrested him.

The Judge, who found Anandan guilty, sentenced him to seven years' rigorous imprisonment. He also ordered a fine of Rs. 4,000.
