Amendment Bill introduced

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: An amendment Bill, seeking to make the Minister for Women and Child Development the chairperson of the committee to select the head of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

The Commissions for Protection of Child Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2006, introduced by Minister Renuka Chaudhary, became necessary, as the Women and Child Development was no longer a Department in the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, whose head used to be the chairperson of the selection committee.

The Department of Women and Child Development was given the Ministry status on January 30.
