Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM : Managing Editor of Prajasakhti daily M.V.S. Sarma who is a candidate for the forthcoming legislative council elections from the Visakhapatnam graduates constituency wanted the irregularities in the electoral rolls to be corrected to enable easy verification and making the lists available mandal revenue offices. He told reporters on Wednesday that for Visakhapatnam urban mandal alone, a list of 1,643 pages comprising 29,461 voters was published. However, it is difficult for anyone to find whether his name was enrolled, as it had neither in alphabetical nor locality-wise order. He said the response to the second phase of enrolment ending on Thursday was nominal as none who had registered in the first phase was in a position to verifythe names..
Ineligible contestants
Alleging that officials had not scrutinised before registering the names, Mr. Sarma said the names of 267 persons who were ineligible because the diplomas they held were not qualified for enrolment were found in the list.
