FARIDABAD: Indian Oil Corporation on Wednesday announced the adoption of a new technology that will enable it to produce additional cooking gas (LPG), petrol and other products at its refineries. "The novel refining process technology INDMAX (Indane Maximisation) will enable the corporation to produce high yields of LPG, high-octane petrol and other products such as polypropylene, styrene and ethylene by using various refinery streams, including heavy residues and naphtha as feedback," IOC Chairman, S. Behuria, told reporters at the company's R&D centre in Faridabad. R. P. Verma, Executive Director (R&D), IOC, and P. Sur, General Manager (Projects-Process), Refinery Division, later signed an agreement on the technology. The INDMAX process uses a special catalyst for which company is putting up a manufacturing facility in Gujarat in collaboration with InterCat, U.S. Mr. Behuria said the new technology would enable IOC to produce up to one million tonne of additional LPG at Paradip.
