OBC quota: court seeks report in six weeks
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Monday granted six weeks to the Centre to place before it the report of the Select Committee of Parliament on the Bill that provides 27 per cent quota for OBCs in higher educational institutions.
A Bench, comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and S.H. Kapadia, gave the directive after Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam said he needed time to do so. The Bench also asked the Centre to file its reply to a petition that questioned the Constitutional validity of the 93rd Constitution amendment, empowering the Centre and States to enact laws to ensure continuance of quota.
On October 16, the ASG undertook to submit the report of the committee and the matter was listed for hearing on Monday. .
