Beedi warning kept in abeyance

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Health Panabaka Lakshmi has announced that the Centre's notification issued in June this year making it mandatory to print a health warning comprising `skull and cross bones' on beedi packets from February 1, 2007, will not be implemented.

"The order has been stopped. We have asked experts to look into the whole issue and will take a decision on the future course of action on the basis of their recommendation," she told The Hindu on Saturday evening after speaking to Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss.
