Kolkata: Two superb centuries by Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (114) and Manoj Tiwary (182 batting) placed last year's finalist Bengal in a commanding position at the end of the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group `B' league match against Mumbai at the Eden Gardens here on Saturday. Bengal ended the day at 540 for six.
Useful stand
The day's other highlight was the 177-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Tiwary and Laxmi Ratan Shukla that took the total past the 500 mark. Jhunjhunwala's knock of 114 his second century in first class cricket was laced with 18 fours in a stay that lasted 20 minutes short of six hours. Tiwary's maiden first class hundred had 21 hits to the fence and one six. This is Bengal's highest total against Mumbai, surpassing the previous best of 387 scored in the 1968-69 final at Mumbai.
