Gagan Khoda props up Rajasthan

Principal Correspondent

JAIPUR: Gagan Khoda, the seasoned opener, helped Rajasthan finish the day at 92 for one in reply to Hyderabad's 385 on the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Super League Group `B' match at Sawai Man Singh Stadium here on Saturday.

On a pitch which had uneven bounce and assisted the spinners in the final session, Gagan Khoda (47 batting, 111b, 9x4) and Nikhil Doru (31 batting, 94b, 4x4) showed the right blend of determination and skill to ensure that the home team didn't lose any wicket after tea.

Veteran medium-pacer Narinderpal Singh provided an early breakthrough by trapping opener Dishank Yagnik with a sharp inswinger in the ninth over.

Circumspection

Gagan and Yagnik batted with circumspection but dispatched the loose deliveries to the fence. They survived confident shouts for leg-before against the two left-arm spinners Pragyan Ojha and Indrasekhar Reddy.

Earlier, the Hyderabad lower order took the score to 385 before the team was all out an hour after lunch. D. Vinay Kumar (32), Kaushik Reddy (35, 4x4) and Indrasekhar (38 not out, 81b, 6x4) ensured that the visitor put up a worthwhile total in the face of quality left-arm spin bowling by Mohd. Aslam.

Surprisingly Rajasthan captain Ajay Jadeja did not bring on Aslam till the 17th over after lunch. Aslam struck in his very first over by dismissing Ojha.

Rajasthan also missed the services of medium-pacer Kabir Ali who went off the field in the first hour with a muscle pull and did not come back.
