Anand, Negi for Corus

NEW DELHI: For the second time in three years, defending champion Viswanathan Anand and young sensation Parimarjan Negi will represent the country in the Corus chess tournament at Wijk ann Zee, near Amsterdam, from January 13 to 28.

Anand, who made history in January this year by becoming the first five-time champion of this premier championship, will be looking to improve his record in the 14-player all-play-all event.

Anand is seeded second behind World No. 1 Bulgaria's Veselin Topalov. World champion Russia's Vladimir Kramnik is seeded joint third with compatriot Peter Svidler.

The average rating of the players in Corus `A' is 2721, which makes it a Category 19 event. In Corus `C', Negi makes a return as the youngest Grandmaster in the game today. As per the seedings released late on Friday, the 13-year-old is ranked fourth among the players with an average rating of 2490.
