National seminar

TIRUCHI : A national seminar, sponsored by the University Grants Commission, on "A comparative study of Sanskrit and Tamil literature" will be held at the Urumu Dhanalakshmi College here on December 8 and 9.

Sanskrit and Tamil scholars from all over the country will participate in the seminar during which research papers will be presented.

A press release from the college here said research papers presented in the national seminar would be published as a book.

The Principal of Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, K. Sekar, would coordinate the seminar.

Exhibition

Nandini Voice For The Deprived, a Chennai-based non-governmental organisation, will organise an exhibition-cum-sale of products made by the physically challenged persons in Chennai on December 10.

The organisation has invited physically challenged persons from all over the State, who are self-employed and can make products such as paintings, art works, wooden articles, consumer products etc. to participate in the exhibition to exhibit their talents and sell their products.

A release from the organisation said no fee had to be paid and refreshment and lunch would be provided to the physically challenged participants free of charge.

Self-employed disabled persons who are interested in participating in the expo could register their names on or before December 3. The contact address is N.S. Demonstration

Members of the Communist Party of India staged demonstrations in the city and in various places in the district on Tuesday condemning the hike in the prices of essential commodities.

The demonstrations were held at Mannachanallur, Tiruverambur, Lalgudi, Uppiliapuram, Musiri, Manapparai and Vaiyampatti.

The party said since the price hike had affected the poor and the middle class severely, the Central and State Governments should take appropriate action and bring the prices under control.

In Tiruchi city, the demonstration was held near the Collectorate.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur dam stood at 115.56 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Tuesday.

The inflow was 7,979 cusecs and the discharge 100 cusecs. — Staff Reporter
