TIRUCHI: The Children's Day celebration at the Sri Sivananda Balalaya here recently was unique in many ways. The highlight was the interactions the students had with eminent people from different walks of life.

A group of students visited Bharathidasan University and had a lively interaction with none other than the Vice-Chancellor, C. Thangamuthu, himself. The Vice-Chancellor spoke at length on various spheres of education relevant to them. He also clarified doubts raised by the young visitors. A bonus for the children was the visit to various laboratories of the university.

Another group of students met the Chief Educational Officer, R. Muthukrishnan, who set the tone by advising them to work hard to achieve their goals. `You can; if you think you can' was the message the boys and girls got from him.

At the AIR

Yet another batch visited the Tiruchi Station of the All India Radio, where they had a lively session with the Station Director, K. Vageesh, who is also a noted Carnatic musician. His message to the students was full of human values to be imbibed by them. He enthralled the children by singing a devotional song.

The `walk the talk' session with noted writer Prema Nandakumar and her husband Nandakumar in the famous Thathachariar Garden in the temple town of Srirangam was something more than the children had expected. Their interaction with them veered through many areas — from agriculture to automobiles to creative writing.

The former Educational Advisor, CBSE, Venkatraman, was another VIP whom the students called on.

The interaction with him was all about education and was highly motivating. He gave them valuable guidance in setting their goals in Board examination and taking the exam without stress and fear.

The celebration included the visit of students to a gram sabha meeting at Nachikurichi.

According to the correspondent of the Balalaya, K.G. Meenakshi, these interactions would motivate the youngsters to build their career in the right way.
