Water level

Madurai: Water level in the Periyar dam stood at 137.2 feet while the level in the Vaigam dam was 69 feet. Rainfall was recorded at some places in the district. The city experienced mild showers, say sources.

TNEB conducts surprise check

Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials checked electrical installations at Samayanallur on Wednesday and imposed a fine of Rs. 2516 on two consumers.

The violations came to light when a 19-member team of engineers led by the Executive Engineer, K. Thangaraj, checked 1,768 electricity connections in the area, says a press release.

Training programme for special educators

Rakshna Trust organised a training programme on autism for special educators on Saturday. Its director, Ranichakkaravarthy, also a consultant psychologist, spoke on topics such as symptoms of autism, early identification and management of autistic children. She also explained the various therapies available for autistic children, according to a statement.

Competitions

School-level competitions on Kamban songs, speeches, literature were held by Madurai Kamban Kazhagam on Thursday. About 140 students from 42 schools participated in the contests. S. Sitharaman, vice-president and R. Chokkikulam, secretary, spoke. K. Ramamoorthy gave away certificates and prizes.
