MADURAI: A doctor was assaulted and robbed of her 22 sovereign gold ornaments at Nagamalai Pudukottai here on Saturday. According to police sources, T. Ramya (25) of NGO Colony was returning home in a moped after closing her Dental Clinic at Keelakuyilkudi when two youths followed her in a motorcycle. As she slowed down near her house, the duo tried to snatch her jewellery. When she resisted, one of the suspects stabbed her. A security guard, S. Pandi, of the local residents' welfare association, who intervened, was also stabbed. The injured were referred to a nearby hospital. In another instance of chain snatching, K. Yani (40), a schoolteacher, was relieved of her 10.5 sovereign gold chain at Viswanathapuram on Sunday. Police said the complainant was parking her moped when a motorcycle-borne suspect snatched her chain and sped away. The Ommachikulam police have registered a case.
