GULBARGA: Police on Friday resorted to lathicharge to disperse a violent mob protesting against the irregular drinking water supply in Brahmpur locality in the city. The windowpanes of one of the police jeeps was badly damaged in the stone throwing. Some police constables had also received minor injuries. What began as a quiet protest by the residents of the Brahmpur locality, who resorted to rasta roko in front of the Goa Hotel Circle in the morning took an ugly turn with some miscreants joining the residents in the protest. When the police tried to persuade the residents to lift the road blockade, some miscreants threw stones at them. According to eyewitnesses, repeated warnings by the police to the mob to disperse peacefully failed to have any effect, forcing the police to resort to lathicharge . Several people were injured in the lathicharge and the police picked up some of the youths for allegedly indulging in stone throwing. However, there was no official confirmation about the arrest of anybody.
