`Risky' bid to create a record

S. Aishwarya

TIRUCHI: The daredevil duo - Sathish Kumar and Dinesh, lay cool even as over five bikes made their way through the wooden plank placed on their abdomen for 301 times in immediate succession. For these students of St. Joseph's College Higher Secondary School, attempting to enter into the Limca Book of Records is no mean achievement.

A vigorous practice of six months before venturing into this risky attempt was the key to success, says their master trainer, A. Jet Lee, who runs the `Jet Lee Fast Power, Karate, Kung Fu and Yoga training.

In the presence of the judges - MSP. Krishnamoorthi, the president of Jet Lee training school, S. Jahangeer, president of Majestic Millennium Lions Club and Shafee Ahmed of King Property Promoters, five bikes rode over the duo for 301 times in a time of 30 minutes. All through the exciting activity, the co-students cheered them and the spirits reached its height when the final 51 rounds were completed with an extra addition of pillion riders.

"It was like a dream-come-true for my son. He worked hard for over six months to achieve this. His perseverance paid off," says the emotional Umadevi Arumugam, the mother of Sathish Kumar.

A black-belt holder in Karate Dinesh derived inspirations from his master, who has carried out many such adventuresome displays in Tiruchi.

In 2004, he carried on 22 of his students in a single scooter for 500 metres in seven minutes. He also went on a marathon race from Bangalore to Tiruchi, to pay his tributes to the tsunami victims.

The video copies and photographs of the show will be sent to the Limca Book of Records office, New Delhi.
