Woman files case under violence Act

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: In one of the first cases under the new domestic violence Act, a woman has registered a complaint at the Kasaba police station here for alleged torture by her husband.

Rukkiya, 33, has complained that she and her four children had been subject to physical and mental torture by her husband, Lateef, for many years.

Rukkiya is now under treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital here for injuries allegedly inflicted by Lateef.

She had brought her grievance before the law enforcing authorities, who, in turn, directed her to file a complaint under the new legislation to protect women against violence in their marital home.

City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay had directed her to register the complaint.

The police station sources said investigations would be carried out.
