Bomb hoax at city railway station

Movement of trains at the city railway station was affected for sometime on Friday evening following a threat that a bomb had been placed there. According to police, railway authorities received the call at around 6 p.m. They immediately alerted the city police. After searching for more than an hour, the police found the call to be a hoax.

The departure of Rajdhani Express train was delayed, the police said.

Official suspended

The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike suspended its welfare official T.P. Shivanand on Friday, following a National Commission of Women inquiry against him on allegations of abuse and harassment. NCW member Nirmala Venkatesh told presspersons that the inquiry was conducted after the commission received complaints against the official from three non-governmental organisations representing women tailoring teachers. Mr. Shivanand has denied all allegations.

Surgery

Six poor patients suffering form heart diseases for many years underwent surgery at the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology following Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy's directions at the Janata Darshan. The patients are Sowbhagya (11) of Mysore, Marekka (22) of Dharwad, Geetha (16) of Mysore, Mallesh (30) and Kalyanamma (38) both of Chamarajanagar and Sheeladevi of Gulbarga.

Inter-school festival

Horlicks Wiz Kids 2006, an inter-school festival, will be held on November 11 at Ambedkar Bhavan, Millers Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For details, call 9341253227.

Property recovered

The BDA recovered encroached property worth Rs. 8 crore in OMBR Layout on Friday. Seven unauthorised RCC sheds on five sites measuring 50x80 feet each at Survey. No. 139/A, 134 of Banaswadi village, were demolished and a total extent of 20,000 Sq. ft. property was taken back, a press release said.

Programme

Rishi Samskruthi Vidya Kendra will organise a Siddha Samadhi Yoga (SSY) programme at various places in the city for the benefit of people suffering from hypertension, diabetes, asthma, arthritis and nervous disorders.
