NEW DELHI: Drawing the attention of the Delhi High Court to the loss of teaching days in schools here due to the agitation against the Supreme Court-mandated sealing of commercial premises in residential areas, a non-profit making organisation on Friday moved the Court seeking directions to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Delhi Government's Directorate of Education to re-schedule the coming Class X and XII examinations to allow the schools to meet the mandatory minimum number of teaching days.

The petitioner, Manav Adhikar Suraksha Samiti, submitted that school children, particularly those who would be appearing in the coming Board examinations next year, had suffered the most due to the agitation by the Capital's traders against the sealing drive. It submitted that the Delhi Government had directed schools in the Capital to shut on October 10, 31 and on November 6, 7 and 8 when the traders had called for a bandh in scant disregard of the loss of teaching days.

The petitioner also urged the Court to direct Delhi's Police Commissioner to ensure the safety of school children during the agitation. Later, Justice Ravinder Bhatt sent the petition to a Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir for consideration. The Bench will take it up for hearing this coming Tuesday.
