Corrections and clarifications

  • A few corrections in "Nod for Bill to make judges accountable" (November 10, 2006, page 1). The first sentence in the penultimate paragraph of the text was: "Any one can make a complaint to the Judicial Council against judges of the Supreme Court (except the CJI), High Chief Justices and judges." It should have been "High Court Chief Justices". The last sentence in the same paragraph was: "If a complaint is against the CJI, then he will not take part in the proceedings." Readers found the two sentences (the first and the last) confusing. J. Venkatesan clarifies: "While complaints against Supreme Court and High Court Judges can be filed by anyone directly to the Judicial Council, a complaint against the CJI must come to the Judicial Council by way of reference from the President of India. This portion was omitted in the report."

  • In the tribute to E.V. Saroja, "A star fades away" (Friday Review, November 10, 2006), the film in which she co-starred with MGR was given as

"Koduthuvaitha Deivam". A reader points out that it should have been

    "Koduthuvaithaval".
