"Let's see what Pakistan will do"

NEW DELHI: New Delhi will not "pre-judge" what Islamabad will do with the evidence on terror activities provided to it, South Block officials said on Friday.

"Let's see what Pakistan will do" was New Delhi's stand on the eve of the Foreign Secretary-level talks, they maintained.

Asked whether the evidence was "clinching," they said New Delhi had more than enough information to tell Pakistan that it needed to investigate these leads.

India had enough evidence to put before Pakistan.

Also, New Delhi was not about to hand control of the peace process to terrorist groups by taking measures against the people of Pakistan following acts of terror, the officials said.

They, however, made it clear that Pakistan must take India's concerns on terrorism on board and next week's talks were not a mere culmination of the third round of the composite dialogue.

Pakistan, the officials emphasised, must implement its commitments to end acts of terror directed against India.

The coming Foreign Secretary-level talks would be used by India to obtain Pakistan's cooperation on counter-terrorism.

Foreign Secretaries Shivshankar Menon and Riaz Muhammad Khan would use the opportunity to review the progress made in the composite dialogue process so far, they said.
