NEW DELHI : Railway Minister Lalu Prasad has given a rape victim Rs. 50,000 from the Railway Minister's Fund. The woman was raped at the Hasnabad Railway Station, under Sealdah Division of the Eastern Railway, on August 18, 2004. A person in white shirt and khaki pant approached Meena Mandal, who was sitting with her husband and three children. He identified himself as a policeman and asked them to get into the coach of a train stationed at that platform citing security reasons. The man searched the pockets of her husband and took away Rs.150. He then directed Mrs. Mandal to another coach and raped her. On coming to know of the incident, the local people began a rail roko around 6.30 a.m., following which the victim was medically examined. A case was filed against the Railway Protection Force constable at the Railway Police Post, Barasat. He was suspended immediately and disciplinary action initiated against him. He was dismissed from service on August 19, 2004.
