Hats off!

The people of America have achieved what the combined moral might of various nation-states could not achieve. The results of the Congressional elections giving a decisive mandate to the Democrats have demolished the pillars on which the Bush administration stood. The people have sent a loud and clear message that President George W. Bush's policies are unacceptable to them.

I salute the Americans for singing in tune with world opinion against U.S. policies. They have upheld the spirit of a vibrant democracy where the people's will is reflected at all times.

Gourav Lohani,
New Delhi

As the editorial "Democrats take control" (Nov. 9) says, the results of the U.S. Congressional elections signal a tectonic shift in the politics of the country. President George W. Bush's policy on Iraq and the `war on terror' is undoubtedly responsible for this shift. Mr. Bush has a tough time ahead. He should proceed with caution.

G. Gopala Krishna,
Hyderabad

The photograph of the President walking to the Oval Office (Nov. 9) was worth a million words. The falling yellow leaves and the distant darkness speak louder than words.

K. Sricharan,
Chennai

The triumph of the Democratic Party is proof of the fact that the people are not in agreement with Mr. Bush's policy in Iraq. The rout of the Republican Party is a lesson for leaders of all democracies.

R. Vasudevan,
Boisar, Maharashtra

The vanquished Republican leader has greeted Democrats on their victory and assured them of his cooperation! There is no complaint from either party about the conduct of elections, no diatribe, no mudslinging. Such a phenomenon is unknown in India.

Pratibha V. Srivatsan,
Chennai
