CHENNAI: A trough of low pressure over the southwest and adjacent west central bay off Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is expected to bring more rain to the State on Thursday. Chengalpet recorded the maximum rainfall of 14 cm followed by Sriperumbudur 9 cm till 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Wallajahpet in Vellore district, Usilampatti in Madurai district and Marungapuri in Trichi district recorded 7 cm each. Chembarambakkam in Thiruvallur district, Illupur in Pudukottai district and Arakonam received 6 cm. While Maduranthagam in Kancheepuram district and Sattur in Virudhunagar district recorded 5 cm each, Virudhunagar received 4 cm. Meteorological officials said 25 other places recorded moderate rainfall. Nungambakkam in Chennai received 2.3 cm and Meenambakkam 1.3 cm between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday. Most districts received excess rainfall since October 1, except Krishnagiri, where the deficit was 5 cm, according to the Meteorological Department's website. Thirunelvi district has received the maximum excess rainfall in the past one month with 39 cm against the normal rainfall of 15 cm. Chennai has recorded the second maximum with 65 cm as against 29 cm. Rain would occur at many places and heavy rain would lash one or two places on Thursday. Chennai would receive a few spells of shower or thundershowers, which may be heavy at times in some areas.
