Chennai regains title

Dindigul: Chennai regained the T.P. Ramasamy Pillai Cup after a gap of two years, dethroning Tiruvallur 4-1, via tie-breaker, in the final of the 29th Tamil Nadu State junior inter-district football championship, organised by the Solar Football Club at the Government HSS ground (Nilakottai), near here, on Sunday. This was Chennai's 21st title.

At regulation time, the teams were locked goallessIn the tie-breaker, David, Karthikeyan, Ravi Moses and Sasikumar scored for Chennai while only Tiruvallur's Manivannan scored. Anandaraj and Premkumar failed in their attempts.

Mrs. Vasuki, Dindigul Collector, gave away the prizes.

Special awards: R. Rakesh Babu and P. Ravi Moses (Chennai); Rajesekar and M. Pradeep (Tiruvallur).

Sundar scalps eight

Off-spinner L. Sunder took eight for 18 as Majestic Cubs registered a resounding nine-wicket victory over Sam Babu XI (Kodaikanal) in the Dindigul District Cricket Association first division league here on Sunday.

The scores:

First division: Sam Babu XI 109 in 25.4 overs (V. Chandraseker 30, L. Sunder eight for 18) lost to Majestic Cubs 110 for one in 21.3 overs (M. Senthil Pandi 53 not out).

Jahir CC (Vedasandur) 152 for nine in 30 overs (Muthukumar 39, M. Thanga Paramasivam 36, S. Thavabalan four for 44) beat R.V.S. Sports Club 136 in 29.5 overs (V. Maruthakottai four for 40).

Second division: Vaigai 74 in 19.2 overs (Mayank Singh five for 20) beat R.S. Kothandaraman Memorial CC 72 in 20 overs (C. Karthikeyan four for 20, Kumarasamy three for six).

Buds Hindu Vidyalaya CC (Oddanchathram) 44 in 19.4 overs (S. Mothi Baba three for eight, Rajasekar three for eight) lost to Kodai CC (Kodai Road) 45 for four in 10.5 overs. — Sports Correspondent
