Tournament heading for a thrilling finish

BANGALORE: The State `A' division hockey tournament is heading for a thrilling finish. On the penultimate day, Army Service Corps `B' and Sports Authority of India `B' played out a goalless draw which left all four teams in the round-robin phase with a chance of winning the title.

ASC `B' leads on points having collected four points till now, while HAL follows with three points. SAI `B' and MEG `B' also remain in contention for the title with MEG `B' having an outside chance if it manages to beat SAI `B' in the unfinished match from Friday.

In the second match of the day, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited beat Madras Engineering Group `B' by the odd goal in three. Monappa (2nd) put MEG `B' ahead early in the match but HAL regrouped after the break and Rajesh (33rd) equalised. Ilavarasan (53rd) then produced the winner.

The unfinished portion of the match between MEG `B' and SAI `B' will be completed on Monday morning.

Nischitha, Misha

in final

G.M. Nischitha and Ruth Misha will clash in the final of the M.S. Ramaiah Anandashram State-ranking badminton tournament here on Monday.

In the semifinals at the Canara Union courts here on Sunday, Nischitha defeated Jacqueline Kunnath 21-13, 21-14 while Misha defeated 19-21, 21-12, 21-13.
