CPAI's steps to promote talent

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: In a major initiative to promote chess through systematic training and guidance, the Chess Players Association of India (CPAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with five chess academies at Pune on Saturday.

The CPAI, with almost all the country's Grandmasters, Woman Grandmasters and International Masters as members, will provide the curriculum of learning, study materials and set up interactive sessions with its GMs and IMs through training camps.

Dr. S. Mujumdar, the President and Founder-Director of Symbiosis Institutions, presided over the function where the CPAI President Dibyendu Barua and vice-president Lanka Ravi signed the MoU with Nagpur Chess Academy, Mumbai's chesstrainer.com, Lanka Chess Foundation (Hyderabad), Buddhibal Chess Academy (Pune) and Kolkata Chess Academy.

Later, the CPAI's Annual General Body Meeting also decided to bring in WGM Swati Ghate as Secretary in place of GM P. Hari Krishna since the latter was not able to find time to fulfil his duties.

The other decisions taken in the meeting include, making Delhi's Tania Sachdev the Brand Ambassador of CPAI, bringing down the membership fee and formation of various committees.
