Corrections and clarifications

The promo (Tamil Nadu and Chennai editions, November 2, 2006, page 1) was "Periyar dam overflowing", while the heading and the text of the news item were "Periyar, Vaigai dams on the verge of overflowing". A reader pointed out that the promo was wrong. The dams were approaching the flood discharge level.

In the report "Fake currency seized at [Chennai] airport" (November 3, 2006), the sentence was: "The sides of the two bigger carton boxes were found to be more thicker than normal ... ." As a reader points out, cartons are boxes, and "thicker than normal" is enough.

A few sports corrections: The report "Girish recounts his terrific feat" ("Sport", November 1, 2006) incorrectly stated that Girish Koushik was a fourth place finisher in the Senior National championship in 2006. He finished fourth in the Karnataka State under-25 chess tournament.

In "Delhi baulks Air-India, makes it to semi-finals" ("Sport", November 1, 2006), the text stated that Punjab prevailed over Indian Airlines by the odd goal in three, while the results column gave a score of 3-1. The Sports Desk clarifies that the score was 2-1.

The sentence in the AFP report "PCB bans Akhtar, Asif" ("Sport", November 2, 2006) was: "Akhtar has taken 165 wickets in 42 Tests and 133 in 208 One-Day Internationals." A reader points out that it should have been "... 208 wickets from 133 games."

The report "Saudi Arabia wins" ("Sport", November 2, 2006) stated that DPR Korea and Iran have joined Japan in the round of eight from Group C (AFC football). Only DPR Korea and Japan have progressed while Iran has been knocked out.
