BANGALORE: Nearly 350 National Cadet Corps from more than 30 city colleges, 23 army officers and 37 staff of NCC donated blood at a camp organised by the National Cadet Corps Directorate of Karnataka and Goa, at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds here on Tuesday.
Nationwide campaign
Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy inaugurated the camp and interacted with the volunteers. Air Commodore S. Srivastava, Deputy Director-General of NCC Directorate, Karnataka and Goa, led the youth by donating blood. In a show of solidarity, A.K. Antony, Union Defence Minister, made a phone call from Delhi while the camp was in progress and spoke to Mr. Shankaramurthy and the cadets. Tuesday's camp was part of a nationwide campaign launched by the NCC. The Lions Blood Bank, Red Cross Blood Bank, NIMHANS blood bank and the government blood banks participated in the camp.
More camps
Similar blood donation camps were planned in Mangalore, Madikeri, Shimoga, Udupi, Suratkal, Manipal, Belgaum, Dharwad, Hubli, Karwar and Panaji.
