CHENNAI: Srishti's Carnatica announced here on Saturday that the `Bharat Sangeet Utsav' will be held between November 1 and 9 at the Narada Gana Sabha. It will feature leading Carnatic and Hindustani musicians. The event was held last year for the first time by the organisation ahead of the December `season of music,' said K.N. Shashikiran, Director, Carnatica. Events have been scheduled in three slots, starting at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively. Kathakali and Rajasthani folk music have also been scheduled. Leading artists, including N. Ramani, Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan, Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan, Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Sowmya, T.M. Krishna, Malladi brothers, and Ranjani Gayathri from Carnatic music; Ashwini Bhide, Sanjeev Abhyankar and Ronu Majumdar from Hindustani; Abhang exponent Ajit Kadkade. Actor Shobana gives a special Bharatanatyam performance. Lecture demonstrations and discussions have been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday mornings. The events are open to the public free of cost. Segments of the performances and interviews with performers would be telecast in half-hour segments on SS Music during the December music season. WorldSpace Radio would also be broadcasting some programmes. Ramanathan N. Iyer, Director of Carnatica, launched a collaborative facility with Airtel to enable customers to download Carnatic caller tunes, ringtones and songsby dialling 7477. An online music store where customers can dial in to listen to their favourite music is also on the anvil. Airtel would also be offering interactive contests about Carnatic music during the season. He said Carnatica had got ISO 9001 certification and that the quality audit encompassed the organisation's music education, including face-to-face and online teaching, marketing and sales of music products, and the digital recording processes at their `Sound of Silence' studio. The Bharat Sangeet Utsav 2006 would be inaugurated at the Narada Gana Sabha on November 1 at 5.30 p.m. Durai Murugan, Minister for Public Works, Tamil Nadu, and N. Murali, President, Music Academy, would participate in the event. T.N. Seshagopalan would be felicitated and would give a special concert on Oothukkadu Venkatakavi's compositions.
