SHIMOGA: N. Kumaraswamy professor of clinical psychology at the Kyushu University Fukuoka-Shi, Japan, suggested here on Sunday that the "DOUSA-HOU", the Japanese rehabilitation technique for children with disabilities be popularised in India as it had been found to be the best method to treat such children. Speaking as a resource person at the workshop on "DOUSA-HOU" organised jointly by the Rotary Club Shimoga, Rotary 75th Anniversary Trust, Asha Kiran Residential School for Mentally Retarded and the Manasa Educational Foundation for Mental Health, he said that the DOUSA-HOU which was restricted to the north had recently made a foray into the south. He said it was introduced successfully in several rehabilitation centres in Hyderabad . He said his university was prepared to conduct demonstration-cum-training for organisations engaged in the rehabilitation of mentally challenged children. Surendra Kumar, professor and Head of the Department of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation at the Chikushi Women's University at Fukuoka-Shi, Japan, inaugurated the workshop . Director of the Manasa Education Foundation K.A. Ashok Pai and chairman of the Rotary 75th Anniversary Trust M. Venugopal were chief guests.
