16 cm rain in Panruti

Chennai, Pamban and Kovilpatti receive 12 cm each

Chennai: Panruti in Cuddalore district received the highest amount of rainfall (16 cm) during the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Saturday.

Incessant showers lashed northern and coastal districts of the State during the last two days disrupting normal life.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted heavy rains on Sunday too due to the persistence of a low pressure trough positioned over southwest and adjoining west central bay off Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast.

The downpour in Cuddalore district brought an inflow of 1,300 cusecs to the Veeranam Lake.

The discharge from the lake to Chennai and for local irrigation has been stepped up from about 400 cusecs to 800 cusecs in the last four days. Chennai Airport received 14 cm, Chennai.
