Donning a colour for a cause

Breast cancer awareness programme organised

Chennai: They were all dressed in pink, sipped at a strawberry drink and pinned satin ribbons of the same colour. It was donning a colour for a cause — to support and create awareness about breast cancer.

The programme, titled `The Pinkest Coffee Morning in Town', was organised by CAN-STOP (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain).

Dr. Vijaya Bharathi Rangarajan, Trustee and Director Community Services and CAN-STOP founder, introduced the activities of the forum. Susan Hopper, wife of the U.S. Consul General David Hopper was the chief guest.

A session on breast cancer, its incidences, myths, preventive measures and care were elaborated upon by Dr. Uma Ram, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist.

Nalini Pandey, Sharadha Thotatharani and Rekha Gangwal narrated incidents of discovery and recovery from breast cancer.

Ms. Hopper highlighted the incidences of breast cancer all over the world and stressed the importance of early detection.

She released the CAN-STOP newsletter.

Awards for financial assistance towards treatment were presented to three needy patients identified by CAN-STOP.

The awards were sponsored by Johnson and Johnson, the family of Jaganmohan Das in his memory and by CAN-STOP.
