DIVIDEND CHEQUE: Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan handing over a cheque for Rs.55.71 lakh, the dividend of the Rehabilitation Plantation Limited for 2005-06, to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy looks on.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Rehabilitation Plantation Limited, Punalur, has paid a dividend of Rs. 55.71 lakh for 2005-06 to the Government. Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan handed over a cheque for the amount to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan here on Thursday. C.K. Viswanathan, chairman and B. Muralidharan, MD of the company were present. The company, which was set up as a joint-venture between the Union and State Governments to rehabilitate repatriates of Indian origin from Sri Lanka as part of the Sirimavo-Shastri pact of 1964, has been making profit continuously from 1980-81. It started paying dividend from 1985-86. The company made a profit of Rs.602.21 lakh in 2005-06. It was able to sell its products consisting of 60 per cent concentrated latex, crumb rubber and various types of rubber sheets at a good price. The dividend of 27.06 per cent was announced at the 30th annual meeting of the company held in September. It was 20 per cent of the profit after payment of tax. The Centre's share of the dividend was Rs. 36.11 lakh.
