New ENC chief pays tributes to martyrs

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vice-Admiral Arun Kumar Singh who assumed office as the new Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command on Thursday visited the Navy War Memorial on Beach Road and laid a wreath in memory of Naval personnel who laid down their lives for the country.

The guards reversed arms as a mark of respect and a two-minute silence was observed. Earlier, he was received by Naval officer-in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Commodore K.N. Mohan Das.

Fifty-nine year old Vice-Admiral Singh, born in Almora in the now Uttranchal State, joined the National Defence Academy as a cadet in 1964.

He was commissioned in 1969 and thereafter served on ships before joining the submarine arm in 1971.

He had served in Sri Lanka during Operation Pawan in 1988 and as Director of Tactics and Director of submarine operations at the Naval headquarters. He had undergone specialization in navigation and directional course, and nuclear submarine and missile course.He is a recipient of Param Vishist Seva Medal, Ati Vishist Seva Medal and Nau Sena Medal.
