VISAKHAPATNAM : The Forum of Legal Professionals, a voluntary organisation for promoting legal awareness in the city, has welcomed the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005, which came into force from Thursday.

Forum president and advocate Kuppili Muralidhar, highlighting the features of the act that gave "effective protection of rights of women guaranteed under the Constitution," said domestic violence is certainly a human rights violation.

This law has been passed bowing to international opinion in favour of the aggrieved persons and the consistent efforts of the civil society groups, human rights organizations and other well meaning citizens, he said.
