SHIMOGA: "Janapada Jatre" (folk fair) will be organised here on October 28 and 29 with a view to introducing folk art culture and literature to urban people on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the State's unification. Special workshops will be organised on October 28 for folk artistes. There will be presentation of folk art forms on the premises of B.R.Ambedkar Bhavan on Octobet 29. The folk troupes participating in the programme will include "dollu kunita" of Kappanahalli in Shikaripur taluk; women's veeragase troupe of Arabilachi in Bhadravati taluk; Antike-Pantike troupe of Tirthahalli taluk; Halage Mela of Bhadravati taluk; Jogipada of Sagar taluk; and women's Sobane Pada troupe of B.R. Project who perform Geeta Gayana and folk dances. The district-level organising committee headed by Deputy Commissioner T.K. Anilkumar has been constituted to oversee the preparations. Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture N. Harikumar is the committee secretary.
