Narsi Reddy basketball from today

HYDERABAD: The C. Narsi Reddy memorial prize money basketball tournament will be organised by the RBVRR Hostel from Monday.

Eighteen teams including defending champion South Central Railway and last year's runner-up Artillery Centre are in the fray in the six-day event, which has a winner's purse of Rs. 10,000. The runner-up will get Rs. 5000.

Sridhar Reddy, organising secretary, said that women's events would also be included from next edition. A tournament for colleges will also be held.

SCR, SBI, Artillery Centre, CRPF, Boys Sports Company, Jubilee Hills Club International, YMCA Secunderabad, YMCA Hyderabad, Nizams Basketball Association, VPG, Reddy Hostel, HPS, Belly Boys, Nizam Engineering College, AP Police, Army School and Central Excise have confirmed their entries.

Diana cracks century

Diana David cracked 124 not out (60 balls, 17x4, 3x6) as Hyderabad XI scored a 100-run win over Rayalaseema in the AP State-level invitation women's cricket tournament in Tirupati.

The scores: Hyderabad XI 201 for one in 20 overs (Diana David 124 not out, Uma 36, Rajani three for 36) bt Rayalaseema 101 in 20 overs (Geetha 45 not out, Rajani 36 not out).

Geetha Reddy XI 118 for one (Sindhuja 55, Gousia Begum 35 not out) bt Andhra XI 77 for six.

Earlier matches: Rayalaseema XI 131 for two (Geetha 52, Ramadevi 30) bt Andhra XI 62 for six.

Hyderabad XI 143 for three in 20 overs (Diana David 98) bt Geetha Reddy XI 100 for three (Sindhuja 42).

Faiz Ahmed shines

A good knock by Faiz Ahmed (55 not out, 39 balls, 7x4, 2x6) helped The Hindu record a convincing nine-wicket win over Genpact in the Tata Indicom Cup corporate cricket tournament organised by the Concern India Foundation.

The scores: Genpact 93 for five lost to The Hindu 94 for one (Faiz Ahmed 55 not out); ICICI 171 for six (Pawan 65) bt Times of India 80 (Vijay five for 13); Taj Krishna 81 for eight lost to Genpact 83 for five in 7.2 overs.

Double for Mrudhula

Mrudhula won a grand double bagging both the cadet and the sub-junior titles in the Krishna District table tennis tournament held at Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada on Sunday.

The results: Finals: Cadet: Boys: Sk. Feroz (Singhnagar) bt Mani Teja (KBN College 11-6, 11-6, 11-9. Girls: Mrudhula (Singhnagar) bt Saira Banu (Singhnagar) 11-7, 11-9, 11-6.

Sub-junior: boys: Vivek Vardhan (IGMC) bt Sai Praneeth (IGMC) 5-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-9. Girls: Mrudhula bt Sk. Mumtaz (Singhnagar) 12-10, 11-9, 11-8.

Women sports fest

Over 400 sportspersons from all over the State will take part in the three-day 32nd A.P. State women (group-1) sports festival in basketball, swimming and gymnastics, which begins at IGMC stadium on Monday. Swimming competitions will be held at Sir Vizzi pool at Gandhinagar and gymnastics will be organised at the V.P. Siddhartha Public School gymnastics hall in Vijayawada.

Adtiya dazzles

Powered by Adiya's 63 Andhra Bank Staff team defeated Marwari Youth XI by 39 runs in a cricket match organised at Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada on Sunday. Andhra Bank XI made 120 in 20 overs and in reply Marwari XI was bundled out for 81.
