Heavy rush at jewellery marts

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: For the Malayalis, any occasion is suitable for buying gold. The prices of the yellow metal have drastically gone up, but the number of customers thronging the jewellery marts is on the rise.

Wedding season or not, there is hardly a day when the yellow metal is not traded. The gold trade zooms in times of festivals like Onam and Vishu. With the cultural influence transcending borders, people are looking for newer modes to celebrate.

The Malayali has always welcomed opportunities, be it buying a commodity or celebrating an event. This trend was reflected in the rush at jewellery marts on Thursday. In fact, Dhanteras has come closer to the Malayalis' heart, at least in the case of a few.

Year after year, jewellery marts are getting too many visitors on the day.

This year too, it was rush time at most of the marts. Many of the shops opened early anticipating the crowd. The rush continued throughout the day.
