T.S. Parthasarathy
CHENNAI:
Renowned musicologist and critic T.S. Parthasarathy, who has authored several books and done the complete works of saint-composer Thyagaraja in Tamil, died here on Friday. He was 93. Born on September 8, 1913, Mr. Parthasarathy was secretary of the Music Academy for 18 years.
He was responsible for inscribing the entire Thyagaraja kritis on marble slab at Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. He translated Tagore's seven plays into Tamil and wrote several books on music and dance. An accredited guide on music and dance for Ph.D. scholars in India and abroad, several titles and honours, including the Fellow of Sangeet Natak Academy in 1992, were conferred on Mr. Parthasarathy.
