Outskirts present a picture of neglect

Residential colonies in Kukatpally and Miyapur have turned into dumping yards

HYDERABAD: Notwithstanding repeated assertions by the administration that garbage was being tackled appropriately and mosquito breeding grounds were cleaned in the wake of dengue scare, the city suburbs present a rather grim picture.

Though located in between thickly populated colonies of Kukatpally and Miyapur, the Mumbai National Highway near Hyderanagar has been turned into garbage dumping yard.

The vast tract of open land close to the highway has been turned into garbage yard with tonnes of refuse picked from surrounding localities brought here over the months.

Mounds of garbage can be found dotting the stretch, at times giving out nauseating stench and causing discomfort to passers-by and residents of nearby areas. "I daily drive down this road in early hours and find the stink unbearable," says K. Anil Kumar, a resident of Vivekanandanagar.

Further down, the busy Serilingampally bus stop has a `nala'.

This passes through the local market which draws large crowd the entire day and has pigs resting and roaming around.
