MYSORE: A three-year-old boy died after he fell into a drain on Ramanuja Road and was washed away in the heavy rain on Sunday.

Harshit, son of Preeti and Chandrashekar Jadav, was playing with another child in the slippery compound passage when he fell into the drain that was overflowing with rainwater. The police said the incident took place at 3:15 p.m. when the elders were resting inside.

It was only after a few motorists who saw the child slipping into the water informed the couple that they realised the tragedy that had struck them.

Soon the Fire Services Department personnel and police arrived at the spot and started search operations.

After a frantic search in the neighbourhood for nearly three hours, the body of Harshit was recovered from the gutter near Yele Tota on Ramanuja Road by diver Naveen.
