NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has got aerodrome license for operating the Indira Gandhi International Airport here from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The aerodrome license authorises DIAL to operate the IGI Airport under the provisions of the Aircraft Act 1934 and Aircraft Rules 1937, the company said in a statement. DIAL had recently submitted the master plan to modernise Delhi airport to help cater to the growing passenger and cargo traffic to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), it said. The Master Plan envisioned construction of a new integrated passenger terminal to cater to the both domestic and international traffic. This terminal will be ready before the Commonwealth Games in 2010, it said. Simultaneously DIAL has also implemented a number of steps to improve the existing airport infrastructure, including duration of simultaneous runway operations, which has been increased along with the addition of several new rapid exit taxiways thereby reducing the waiting time for aircraft on the ground and in the air. The company said it had added new X-ray machines inside the passenger terminals. In addition new passenger seating has been introduced in the terminals, it said. DIAL is the joint venture company consisting of AAI, GMR group, Fraport, Eraman Malaysia and India Development Fund that has been mandated to operate, maintain, develop, design, construct, finance, upgrade and modernise Delhi Airport.
