Madurai: A scintillating 92 by Mari helped SBOA School Cricket Club defeat Kapil Devils CC by 19 runs in the Madurai District Cricket Association first division `A' Zone league in Madurai recently. The scores: (first division `A' Zone): SBOA School CC 215 in 41.2 overs (Mari 92) bt Kapil Devils CC 196 in 40.3 overs (Silambarasan 63); TVS Club 282 for seven in 47 overs (Bava Fakrudeen 47, Karuna Murthy 65, Valamalai 60 not out) bt Spark CC 141 in 24.3 overs (Valamalai three for 34); Srichakra CC 92 in 19.5 overs (Vimal Nath four for 31) lost to Pykara CC 94 for three in 20.4 overs (Hari Krishnan 43 not out). `B' Zone: Mercury CC 107 in 32.2 overs lost to Eleven Bullets CC 108 for seven in 26.1 overs (Arumuga Kadavul four for 31); Richards CC 290 for eight in 45 overs (Anand Roystyon 40, Raja 42, Ram Titto 66, Rm. ST Hindu College wins
At Ambasamudram, ST Hindu College, Nagercoil, retained the title defeating Aditanar College Tirunelveli 29-26, 16-29, 29-22 in the final of the Manonmanium Sundaranar University inter-collegiate men's ball badminton tournament organised by Sri Paramakalyani College on Saturday.
Solar blanks Dudley
Solar Sports Club, Nilakottai, thrashed Dudley Football Club 5-0 in the Dindigul District Football Association first division league for the Coronation Trophy at Dindigul on Saturday. Ramanathan (2), Bala Kumar, Senthil Kumar and Parameswaran scored. In another match, St. Mary's FC and Annai SC, Mettupatti, played a goalless draw.
Sourashtra retains title
Sourashtra College retained the Venkatachalam Memorial Trophy for the sixth successive year with an all-win record in the four-team league of the Madurai Kamaraj University Champions Trophy cricket tournament at the University ground at Madurai on Saturday. SRNM College finished runner-up with two wins, while Madura College finished third with its only win over Thiagarajar Arts College. The scores: SRNM College 86 in 26.5 overs lost to Sourashtra College 87 for three in 14 overs (Ranjith 43); Thiagarajar Arts College 89 in 24.4 overs lost to Madura College 90 for six in 18.4 overs
Prabhakar bags a double
J. Prabhakar of American College HSS in the boys' section, P. Jeyapriyanka and Jayabarathi, both from St. Joseph's Girls HSS, and A. Elavarasi of Railway Mixed HSS in the girls' section won two gold medals each in the district-level inter-school under-16 athletics meet at Madurai on Friday. City triumphs
City lifted the Nanal Srinivasan Trophy by virtue of the first innings lead on the final day of its U-22 match against Combined Districts in Chennai. Off-spinner R. Ashwin bagged five wickets while Guru Kedarnath and M.P. Rajesh split four as City dismissed Districts for 159, gaining a 92-run lead. Suresh Kumar top-scored with 66 (166b, 5x4). In the second innings, City slumped to 79 for six at tea when play was called off. The scores: City 251 & 79 for six in 35 overs drew with Combined Districts 159 in 81.4 overs (S. Suresh Kumar 66, R. Ashwin five for 53).
AU edges SVU
Muthukumaran scored a hat-trick as Anna University edged out Sri Venkateswara University 3-2 in a second round match of the South Zone inter-university hockey tournament at Chidambaram on Saturday.
