Two share lead

AURANGABAD: Top seed Umakant Sharma and local lad Arjun Tiwari shared the lead with six points after the seventh round of the National under-25 chess championship here on Thursday.

Umakant, who defeated M. Vinay Kumar, and Arjun, who toppled the sole overnight leader Vikas Sharma, have six points each with two rounds remaining.

They are followed on 5.5 points by Vikas and K. Ratnakaran.

The results:

Seventh round: Arjun Tiwari (Mah) 6 bt Vikas Sharma (Pun) 5.5; M. Vinay Kumar (AP) 4.5 lost to Umakant Sharma (TN) 6; K. Ratnakaran (Ker) 5.5 drew with P. Karthikeyan (TN) 5; Vikramaditya Kamble (Mah) 4 lost to Arvinderpreet Singh (Pun) 5; Rishipal Singh (AP) 4.5 drew with Sagar Shah (Mah) 4.5; S. Vikramjit Singh (AP) 5 bt Shailendr Kumar Bajpai (UP) 4; Rajesh Kumar (Jha) 5 bt Puneet Jaiswal (Jha) 4; Anup Kapadia (Mah) 4 lost to R. Preetham Sharma (TN) 4.5; Prathamesh Mokal (Mah) 4.5 bt Deepthamesh Reddy (AP) 3.5; Priyadarshi Torne (Mah) 3.5 lost to Sudhir Kumar Sinha (MP) 4.5.
