Hair, Doctrove out of Champions Trophy list

DUBAI: Controversial umpires Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove, who were involved in the recent ball-tampering fiasco, were omitted from a list of eight umpires announced on Thursday by the ICC to officiate in the Champions Trophy starting from Saturday.

The appointments cover 16 of the 21 matches in the 30-day tournament that is taking place from Oct. 7 to Nov. 7. The officials for the matches between England v Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on Oct. 28 and India v Australia in Mohali on Oct. 29, as well as the two semifinals and the final will be announced later, the ICC statement said.

The eight umpires named are all from the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires while the three referees are selected from the Elite Panel of ICC Referees. The ICC had already announced that Hair will not officiate in the mega event but had said nothing regarding Doctrove, who stood along with the Australian in the controversial Oval Test. — UNI
