Coimbatore MP's plea to Karunanidhi

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: Coimbatore Member of Parliament K. Subbarayan has appealed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to use his good offices to include the Coimbatore airport in the first phase of the expansion plan.

The Madurai airport has been included in the first phase and Coimbatore in the second phase.

Delay in land acquisition

Mr. Subbarayan said he had written to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation. The Minister expressed his inability, citing delay in land acquisition by the State Government.

The city hosted textile and industrial units and educational institutions and IT firms were expected to set up shop here.

As a result, air traffic and the number of passengers were increasing. The city's infrastructure would be improved under the Jawarhalal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

Mr. Karunanidhi should intervene and expedite land acquisition, besides taking up the issue with the Union Ministry, he said.
