LDF for consensus on speed governors
Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The State committee of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Saturday decided to ask the Government to work for a consensus with vehicle owners in the matter of introducing speed governors in heavy vehicles plying along the roads of the State.
The meeting, held at the AKG Centre here, reviewed the action plans for one year prepared by departments under Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran and Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas.
The meeting reportedly urged the Government to bring down the losses of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation by cancelling bus services in grossly uneconomical routes.
Some of the Ministers in the Achuthanandan Ministry, reportedly, came in for criticism for their "inadequate performance" and style of functioning.
Sources in the LDF said that the meeting wanted the Government to intensify its efforts to tackle the spread of the viral disease chikungunya in districts such as Alappuzha.
Rise in prices was another topic over which the meeting expressed concern.
