Performing athletes would be honoured: CM

HYDERABAD : Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy said the Government was committed for an all-round development in rural areas to ensure that the best of the talent is groomed into champion performers.

Dr. Reddy, addressing the 5000-odd athletes at the inaugural function of the Chief Minister's Cup State-level sports meet for boys and girls (under-19) at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, said all performing athletes would be honoured and given support in their future endeavour at the highest level.

"Every effort should be made to see that the outstanding talent in rural areas is not wasted by extending support on all fronts," he remarked.

Easy for HSBC

HSBC recorded a seven-wicket win against Taj Group in the Idea Cup cricket tournament at the Gymkhana Grounds here.

The scores: Taj 69 in 15.4 overs lost to HSBC 70 for three in 11.1 overs; Gati 84 (Jayraj 36) bt Intelli Group 76.

All Saint's in final

All Saint's HS entered the final of the Himalaya Cup inter-schools (under-15) cricket tournament, defeating Gowtham MS by 42 runs here.

The scores: Semifinal: All Saint's HS 140 (Sai Srikar four for 19) bt Gowtham MS `A' 98 (Sandeep Goud three for 19).

HCA probables

Hyderabad Cricket Association named the probables for the South Zone inter-state cricket tournament (under-22) for the P. Ramachandra Rao Trophy to be played here from October 14 to November 2. Players are to report to coach Jyothi Prasad at the Gymkhana Grounds at 7 a.m. on October 3.
