It is South Korea all the way

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: It was South Korea all the way in the recurve section of the fourth Meteksan World Cup archery championship which concluded at Shanghai on Saturday. The honours in the compound section were shared by the United States and Russia.

The best Indian show was finishing fourth in the women's recurve team event where India lost the bronze medal to Turkey in the play-off after the team's most experienced Dola Banerjee, needing to shoot two arrows in the final 50 seconds, failed to release her final arrow before the buzzer went off.

In an email to this newspaper, team's manager-cum-coach, Sanjeeva Singh said India had a six-point lead at the end of the third end. "In the final, the other two archers, Punya Prabha and Chekrovolu Swuro, took the lead further. Dola could not shoot the second arrow in time and India lost the contest by three points,'' he said.

Singh also said Indian men's recurve team's first round loss to Belarus was owing to another experienced Tarundeep Rai shooting a five that resulted in India losing the tie at 24-27 after the two teams tied at 210 and 28-28 in the first shoot-off.
